pāmakani

The Pāmakani is also known as the Viola. It is not very common on Oahu. The plant does not standout and thus very hard to identify. The flower, although big in the picture is super small, like the size of a dime.

Background Information

Pāmakani is endemic and occurs on most Hawaiian Islands except the Big Island. Most people called it by its scientific name of Viola. And yes it is in the violet family. The leaves are heart shaped or triangular shaped. This species is called viola chamissoniana. It is on the list of federally endangered species in the category of vulnerable.
