‘Ulei

'Ulei is one of the easier plants to identify. It is common in the mountain and it can be observed growing with both native and non native plants. It is one of the those native plants that never say die.

Background Information

'Ulei is indigenous. It appears like ground cover or a bush. It has small leaves that are pinnate. In Ancient Hawaii, Hawaiians used the wood to make spears, digging sticks, flexible hoops for hand nets, and Hawaiians even at the berries. Scientific Name: Osteomeles

'Ulei

The flower of 'Ulei has 5 petals and what appears to be dots in the middle. The flowers are said to have a fragrant smell. The plant grows anywhere in the mountains and you will see it at the summit and lower elevations. The scientific name is osteomeles anthyllidifolia, yes probably easier to call it 'Ulei.
