Hespromannia

Hespromannia is a hard plant to find. It occurs on the slopes of mountains in both the Ko'olaus and Waianaes. The flower is a showstopper with its purple and yellow colors.

Background Information

There are various species of the Hespromannia plant even on Oahu. I'm not sure if the Hawaiians had a name for it and maybe not because right now there is no Hawaiian name for the plant. It is in the aster family, the same family as the sunflower and daisy.

Hespromannia

This plant is the Waianae Hespromannia (arbusucula). The plant grows in a native dominated Ohia/Koa forest. According to DLNR, associated plants are ko'oko'olau, kopiko, & maile which I seen grown nearby this plant. It is on the federally listed of endangered plants in the category of critically endangered. The arbusucula also grows on Maui.
