alahe'e

Alahe'e is common in drier areas like Mokuleia and Waianae. Leaves look like lama, but not set up like lama. The buds have a lot of little bulbs that produces a bunch of white baby flowers. The easiest place to find Alahe'e is at Na Pohaku o Wahine in Kailua.

Background Information

Alahe'e too is in the coffee family just like kopiko and 'ahakea. This one endemic species is called odorata. Ancient Hawaiians used the wood for fishing tools like spears and even used the wood to make o'o (digging sticks). In modern times, it is used for landscaping.
