'uhaloa

'Uhaloa occurs in many places on Oahu and appears like a weed. As a discussion point, you may have to convince your friend that it isn't an invasive weed and is a native plant.

Background Information

If you go to Alan Davis Beach on Oahu, you'll see a lot of 'Uhaloa. The leaves look similar to other weeds, but the yellow mini flower is a give away. You may have to wait to see the yellow flower to identify it. It grows as a single stalk with the leaves alternative of one another.

'Uhaloa

The scientific name is Waltheria indica. It doesn't grow very big. The yellow flowers are said to be fragrant. It is distributed all over the main Hawaiian islands.
