na'e na'e

Na'e Na'e on Oahu grows in clusters near or at the summits. The best place for Na'e Na'e viewing is the Ka'ala trail, Konahuanui trail, and Poamoho trail.

Background

Found in the sunflower family, there are 26 endemic species of Na'e Na'e, that is a lot. However, many of the 26 species occur on Kauai and Maui so that narrows it down when on Oahu. There are a handful of species that grow on Oahu.

Na'e Na'e

This species of Na'e Na'e is called dubautia laxa. These plants can grow up to 15 feet tall, but I've only seen it at about 8 feet tall. The leaves cluster in a rosette form and appears glossy, but not all the time.

Na'e Na'e

We saw this species of Na'e Na'e on the Pihea/Alakai Swamp Trail on Kauai. I think this species is dubautia knudesenii according to the Pihea book.
