Maiapilo

Maiapilo is hard to find on Oahu. The flower is a showstopper and smells AMAZING! One of the best smelling flowers ever, you can't even replicate that smell. Unfortunately, the flower blooms at night and dies during the day. If lucky, you might catch it early in the morning.

Background Information

There is only 1 endemic species of Maiapilo. It comes from the caper family. Hawaiians used it for its medicinal benefits. It would look good in landscaping, however the flower only blooms at night, so no sense unless you party all night.

Maiapilo

Unfortunately Maiapilo is federally listed as vulnerable with about 1000 plants left on all the main islands combined. You'll see it near the beach, it can grow easily on coral, rocks, or soil. There is only one endemic species called capparis sandwichiana
