‘Ihi

'Ihi - This plant only grows on Maui (Molokini) and Kaho'olawe. However maybe an anomally, there is a population on Oahu. They look like succulents, look natural in their environment on Oahu. Although easy to grow in cultivation, it is very rare in the wild. 

Background Information

This rare endemic plant has a common name of 'Ihi. It is in the purslane family and appears like a succulent. The only population is on Molokini and Puʻukoaʻe Islet, but it is easy to grow because it doesn't need much soil and water.

Scientific Name: Portulaca molokiniensis

Height: Small plant is under a foot, Medium plant is between 1-3 feet

Modern Uses: Easy to grow for decoration. Needs full sun.
